MCARI

Terms of Use

Last updated: 18 October 2026

These terms apply to anyone who creates an account on mcari.org. They cover event-level data and the site's tools that require an account. They do not restrict the issues of The Myanmar Conflict Monitor, which are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0), or anything else on the site that is open to all.

1. Your account

Give an accurate email address, organisation and purpose. An account is for one person and may not be shared. Access is granted when you confirm your email address, and MCARI may suspend or revoke an account at any time.

2. Using event-level data

Event-level views are provided for research, humanitarian, journalistic and accountability work. You may not:

  • download, scrape or collect event-level data in bulk by automated means
  • republish event-level data in bulk. Citing individual events, with attribution, is permitted.
  • try to identify the people who report events to MCARI, or any person in the data
  • use the data to target any person, community or group

Row-level data beyond the map is supplied on request only, under the terms given with it.

3. Limits of the data

MCARI records what reporting establishes. A zero means nothing was recorded, not that nothing happened, and counts are minimums. The data is provided as it stands, without warranty. The limitations are set out in the MCARI Methodology and Codebook.

4. Fair use of the service

Requests are rate-limited. Attempts to get around a limit, or to reach event-level data by other means, end the account.

5. Citation

Cite figures from the site as:

MCARI, Myanmar Conflict Data, [release], Myanmar Conflict Analysis Research Institute, mcari.org, accessed [date].

6. Changes

MCARI may change these terms. The current version and its date are shown on this page.
